These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Chess Coach AI by Ben (the "Service"), operated by Benjamin Bravo ("I", "me", or "my").

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service. Your continued use of the Service following any changes to these Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes.

2. Description of Service

Chess Coach AI by Ben is an AI-powered chess coaching platform that provides:

  • Stockfish analysis — Engine-powered position evaluation and move suggestions
  • Opening explorer — Browse opening theory with master game statistics
  • AI chat coaching — Interactive conversations with an AI chess coach

The Service operates on a freemium model. A free tier is available with usage limits, and an optional paid premium tier offers enhanced access and features. Premium subscriptions are processed through Stripe.

3. Account Responsibilities

When creating and maintaining an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information during registration
  • Maintain the security of your password and account credentials
  • Maintain only one account per person
  • Notify me immediately of any unauthorized use of your account

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you are under 13, you may not create an account or use the Service.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Abuse, harass, or send harmful content through the Service
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from the Service
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Circumvent rate limits, usage quotas, or other technical restrictions
  • Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data

5. AI Disclaimer

The AI coaching provided by the Service is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Please be aware that:

  • AI analysis and advice may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading
  • AI coaching is not a substitute for professional chess instruction
  • No guarantees are made regarding the accuracy, reliability, or quality of AI responses
  • AI-generated content should be independently verified before being relied upon

You use AI coaching features at your own discretion and risk.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, features, and content, is owned by Benjamin Bravo and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without prior written consent.

You retain ownership of your chess games, analyses, and conversations created through the Service. By using the Service, you grant me a limited license to store and process this content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

Subject to these Terms, I grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.

7. Payment and Subscriptions

  • Premium subscriptions are billed through Stripe on a recurring basis
  • A 7-day free trial is available for new premium subscribers
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings
  • No refunds are provided for partial billing periods
  • Pricing may change with reasonable advance notice

Upon cancellation, you will retain access to premium features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will revert to the free tier.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on the following third-party services to function:

  • Supabase — Authentication and database
  • Google Gemini — AI coaching responses
  • Lichess — Opening theory and master game data
  • Vercel — Hosting and deployment

I am not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or reliability of these third-party services. Outages or changes to third-party services may affect the functionality of the Service.

9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, I shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

My total liability for any claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to me in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

Either party may terminate this agreement at any time. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through your account settings.

I reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that I determine, in my sole discretion, to be harmful to the Service or other users.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service will cease immediately. Data deletion following termination is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to Terms

I may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, I will make reasonable efforts to notify you via email or through the Service.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
